Pour it cold to open the evening, the French way.

Tasting Notes

Deep, intense red with a powerful, fruity nose. The palate is rich and generous, full of red fruit, with the gentle warmth of cognac woven through. Sweet but lively, and made to sip cold.

The Story

Pineau des Charentes is one of France's great apéritif traditions, made by blending fresh grape must with cognac, then resting it in oak. This one comes from Les Vignobles Boule, on the border between Cognac and Bordeaux, from a small parcel of Merlot grown on sandy soils. After at least a year in barrel it pours a deep, fruity red, the glass the French reach for before dinner, or after, alongside something chocolate.

Quote from Alix

Blessed with a micro-climate beside the Gironde, the largest estuary in Europe, this traditional apéritif from the region is made by fortifying freshly picked grape must with Cognac, then aging it in barrel for several months. Serve it very cold.
